The Real Stiletto Heels

Andriano Diagi and Di Marni ankle boots

I am sick and tired of people saying that this shoe and that boot has “stiletto heels” and then I see that they only have high heels that happen to be  not chunky! I have seen so many pictures online, that were supposed to be of some ”stiletto heeled shoes or boots” which were only 3-3.5 inch classic heels.

The best definition of a stiletto heel is “A very high heel on a woman’s shoe, tapering to a very narrow tip. Origin: 17th Century; from Italian, from stilo a dagger, from Latin stilus a stake, pen“. Most of the real stiletto heels are also called pin heels or spike heels.

I absolutely see no reason to call any type of high heel a stiletto heel to give it a more sophisticated and exquiste status. Unless it is very thin at the base and pointed at the heel tip, a heel should not be called a stiletto heel but simply a high heel.

To clarify what a real stiletto heel is, I am posting a couple of shoe and boot pictures with “real” stiletto heels.

  • It is best to consider just what material the sandal is made of. If you plan to wear your sandals on a regular basis then you should make certain that they are hard wearing and will last a long time and you should really select leather sandals.
