Gold leather t-bar heels by Alexander McQueen were in my “to post” list but never found the time to do it. Now, it is time. Better late than never.

These gold color high heel pumps feature a peep toe, a buckle fastening t-bar ankle strap, a small platform and leaf design all over.

The heels are 5 inches high and the platform is 1 inch tall.

British fashion designer Alexander McQueen found dead

Alexander McQueen was noted both for his flamboyance and impeccable tailoring. His death comes just as designers in New York have begun unveiling their fall 2010 collections. McQueen was scheduled to show his line in Paris in March.

The death of designer Alexander McQueen strikes at the fashion industry’s creative core, not because he had the most lucrative business or because he launched the greatest number of trends that trickled down to suburban malls. Instead, McQueen represented the kind of volatile imagination that transforms clothes into a cultural tapestry, intensely personal therapy and political provocation.

The British designer, who was found dead Thursday in his London home, was 40 years old. The death was an apparent suicide. It had been a long time since he’d been considered an enfant terrible. But he, more than any of the 20-something designers working today (who like to consider themselves subversive), was able to use fashion as a tool for agitating folks out of their preconceived notions about femininity, power and even romance. Over the course of a career that lasted more than 15 years, he tackled the social impact of body-cloaking chadors, the stigma of disability, the role of technology in dehumanizing our lives, the historical subjugation of women and even the way in which modern women sometimes allow themselves to be victims — sometimes of society and sometimes of fashion.

McQueen was able to back up his flamboyance, his audacity and his sometimes irascible personality with the impeccable tailoring that he learned during his early apprenticeship on Britain’s Savile Row. McQueen was not merely flash and petulance. He was substance, too.

His career took him from Savile Row to the corporate boardrooms of LVMH Moët Hennessey Louis Vuitton, where he served as creative director of Givenchy. But in 2000, he defected from the French firm and joined Gucci Group, which bought a controlling interest in his signature label. McQueen retained creative control and under the guidance of Gucci Group’s chairman Domenico de Sole, he seemed to flourish. McQueen’s death comes just as designers in New York have begun unveiling their fall 2010 collections. McQueen was scheduled to show his line in Paris in March.

McQueen was one of my favorite designers. He had great talent and skills to create amazing designs that would at times shock the general public with their unique and provacative aspects. He was a gifted young artist and creative designer.

At times, I am not extremely delighted with how the top designer couture collections look, especially if there is too much of “experimenting” going on - as it was the case with Alexander McQueen SS 2010 collection footwear- and when the model selection and make-up is tasteless – as with extremely skinny and unhealthy looking models (aka “bag of bones”) and models who have bad hair-dos and make-up that look like they have been punched in both eyes.

However, the Dior Couture 2010 Collection has a very classic feel to it in terms of shapes, materials, and execution. I especially love the long leather gloves and the buttoned and buckled high-heel boots, not to forget the riding crops as classy accessories.

My Tahari Cindy Riding Boots

You know me. I know me! I am always interested in high heel shoes, boots, sandals, etc. My footwear should have nicely shaped high heels to please me and my fashion senses.

But since I bought my Tahari black leather riding boots, which by the way were a very good deal as well for only $99(down from $250), I started having a sudden interest in equestrian style boots.

I bought these cool leather knee-high boots to wear them during my commute to work on cold days when the sidewalks and stairs are too slippery for high heeled footwear. They have one inch heels and are extremely comfortable when I need to walk or stand over long periods of time. And when I pair them with my long black leather coat that goes all the way down to my heels, they really look gorgeous. I was also thinking of wearing them with my spurs attached, but did not have the chance to do so, yet! They are utilitarian but they also look good, so to say.

Anyways, I have been lloking at different riding boot designs. I wanted to share my current favorites with you. Be warned: It is a long list and lots of pictures! There are more than 40 different boots.

Terrible News for SS 2010 Shoe Season

Following the excellent and pleasing designs of the summer 2009 with a myriad of gorgeous strappy sandals, peep-toes and summer booties, we were amazed by the beautiful peep-toe booties of the fall season, which were followed by the exceptional over-the-knee boots of winter season.

Great designs by almost all top designers, gorgeous material combinations, sleek silhouettes, the wonderful display of craftsmanship, and the breathtakingly innovative stiletto heels made us feel like we were in a wonderful dream and we never wanted to wake up.

Until the moment of the rude awakening came! I was happily browsing the Internet to see what’s new and upcoming when I got hit with the truth: I saw the Louis Vuitton SS 2010 shoe designs. My God! Then came the second hit from Chanel. Then came the third hit from Alexander McQueen, one of my favorite shoe designers. I was trying to stay positive and optimistic, however, they kept coming: Dior, Miu Miu, John Galliano and Nina Ricci!

One after the other they hit me in my face with their hideous shoe designs for SS 2010, reminding me that I was not in my joyful dream anymore. The creepy designs, the weird material combinations, the disturbing colors, and their unsettling presentation made me feel uneasy. (Check them below for yourself)

Now there is one thing that we can do: We should hope that none of these strange designs go to production and see the daylight again and that they stay on the runways as means of attracting the crowds’ attention.

I am also hoping that the other top designers, who still possess a ‘design sense’, will choose to continue the current elegant styles and create beautiful shoes and boots again for the SS 2010 and beyond, which are worthy to be worn and which make us feel good and happy again while wearing them and while watching others wear them.

Style Wars – Designers in Court over Boot Design

Alexander McQueen is taking legal action against Steve Madden for copying his peep-toe bootie design called ‘Faithful’, which is by the way one of my favorites for this season. Steve Madden created a remarkably similar design called ‘Seryna’ just months after McQueen’s design was revealed.

Now according to nymag.com, Alexander McQueen is suing Steve Madden for allegedly copying his Faithful bootie. The law suit, filed October 1 in Manhattan District Court, alleges Steve Madden’s Seryna Bootie is a “studied imitation” of McQueen’s Faithful design, which was inspired by a motorcycle jacket. McQueen’s lawyers add, “In fact, the only design element of the ‘Faithful Bootie’ that Madden did not deliberately copy is the zipper pull that contains the ‘Alexander McQueen’ trademark skull.”

McQueen’s lawyers sent a cease and desist letter to Steve Madden in September, but they refuse to stop making and selling the shoe.

I can see another difference between these two booties, which is their price! The McQueen booties are sold for $1,150 whereas the Madden versions are only $130.

Out of This World: Alexander McQueen SS 2010 Shoe Designs

Alexander McQueen SS 2010

Alexander McQueen showed his SS 2010 shoe designs and created mixed feelings.

Some of the designs were out of this world – literally! Some of the shoes looked like a cross between cocoons and helmets. Although several of the shoes on the runway may look extreme to most of us, their mission was to capture the attraction and I believe the mission is accomplished.

There were also ultramodern and industrial ankle boots, which kind of reminded me of the Nicholas Kirkwood designs with their industrial looking materials such as nuts, bolts, and metal combined with leather. The design and material combinations create a futuristic look for these stiletto heeled ankle boots, which is kind of sexy and eye-catching.

The very creative McQueen collection exudes a mystical and futuristic aura and it will be interesting to find out soon which of the presented designs will make it to the stores.

Girls, it is time to go green and save! Green is not one of the main colors in our collective color plate. I was not sure about going green for fall/winter 2009/10. Was it too daring?

As I was contemplating the validity of this post during my morning commute, a vision in green captivated my attention. My fellow commuter, the always stylish yet never dull, Ms. Fierce (my personal nickname for her). Wearing a very lovely green python printed pump with a green satin pencil skirt, with a burgundy bag. Yes, she went there and the land was good.

Fellow Boot Lovers,

As you all know, 2009 Fall season brings us the gorgeous over-the-knee (OTK) boots. Once called “hooker boots” and strictly reserved for fetish events and stage performances, over-the-knee boots have already entered the daily life of many celebrities, who were eager to show off with their designer OTK boots in order to claim the fashion pioneer title. Like it is with every fashion article, these boots will be then a part of the daily lives of all fashionistas all around the world as soon as the summer temperatures cool down.

I know a lot of people, who already started (and some already finished!) their boot shopping to be ready not to miss the first possibility to wear those trendy tall boots. Some of the top models are already sold out and more and more companies are coming out with their version of OTK and thigh-high boots. There is a huge variety in terms of materials, shapes, colors and embellishments. Also, the prices vary a lot depending on the brand name, quality and the store that you buy the boots from.

One thing is for sure: We will enjoy wearing and seeing the beautiful tall boots again-after a couple of generations- and I hope that this trend never dies out completely.

The Real Stiletto Heels

I am sick and tired of people saying that this shoe and that boot has “stiletto heels” and then I see that they only have high heels that happen to be not chunky! I have seen so many pictures online, that were supposed to be of some ”stiletto heeled shoes or boots” which were only 3-3.5 inch classic heels.

The best definition of a stiletto heel is “A very high heel on a woman’s shoe, tapering to a very narrow tip. Origin: 17th Century; from Italian, from stilo a dagger, from Latin stilus a stake, pen“. Most of the real stiletto heels are also called pin heels or spike heels.

I absolutely see no reason to call any type of high heel a stiletto heel to give it a more sophisticated and exquiste status. Unless it is very thin at the base and pointed at the heel tip, a heel should not be called a stiletto heel but simply a high heel.

To clarify what a real stiletto heel is, I am posting a couple of shoe and boot pictures with “real” stiletto heels.

My High Heeled Boot Favorites

I must admit, I am a Boot Girl. I love boots and I can wear them anytime, even in the summer!

This year, a new trend emerged. Designers all around the world are creating styles that look like a pair of rather closed peeptoe pumps or sandals but they call them a bootie, “peeptoe bootie”, “open-toe ankle boots” or even a “shoe bootie” or “shoe boot” as in case of Fendi High Heel Gladiator Shoe Boots.

Whatever they are called, these styles are sexy and gives us ladies the chance to show off our well-pedicured toes, even in fall and winter! There is also a continuing trend for over-the-knee (OTK) and thigh-high designs and although most designers are looking for a fresh style, I love some of the retro look like in Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors, Miu Miu, and especially Prada OTK models.

Although there are some cute flat or low-heel OTK boots this year (especially some riding boot inspired models), I always prefer high heels and stilettos!
