Both are music divas, both are known for their specific style choices, and both are famous for their fierce heels. Yes, I am talking about Alicia Keys and Rihanna.

When both of these divas choose to wear the same style of the same designer’s shoes to the same event, we can definitely talk about shoe wars.

At the 2012 Grammy Awards, both ladies chose the same shoe: Christian Louboutin ‘Bis Un Bout’ pumps with PVC trims and 5 inch stiletto heels.

Alicia Keys opted for a classic below-the-knee Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2012 Couture fitted LBD with padded shoulders teamed with a choker, while Rihanna wore a black silk cady custom Giorgio Armani gown featuring a plunging neckline complimented by a high slit, a dramatically open back and an elegant leg cleavage.

I must admit that Rihanna pulled it off better with her longer and leaner legs and delicate ankles. She also scored additional style points for her complimenting black toenail polish while Alicia went for cherry red.

I love stilettos, I love animal skin, and I also love Louboutin designs. So this one is a winner.

Christian Louboutin Wales 120 pumps are made of gray and dark-brown python leather.

The stacked wooden stiletto heels measure approximately 4 inches high (hence the name 120 as in 120mm) with a 1-inch concealed platform.

They also feature low-cut almond toes, lace-up front with dark-brown leather laces, and signature red leather soles.

The price is $1,495 at net-a-porter.

Christian Louboutin Gazolina 140 Suede Calfskin Thigh-High Platform Boots

I love this particular model by Louboutin that comes in two colors: black and coffee.

My favorite color choice is coffee as it is more unique than a pair of black suede OTK boots.

The boots are made of suede calfskin and are a whooping 31 inches tall. This is not a mere OTK but rather thigh-high territory.

They feature a covered 5.5-inch high stiletto heel (hence the 140 in the name for 140mm) with a 1.2-inch tall platform (30mm), a softly rounded toe, a half zipper at the inside of the shaft, a fabric lining (I would’ve preferred a leather one, but oh well), and off course the signature red leather sole.

The initial price for these lovely boots were $2,295, however, right now, they are sold for around $1,800 and lower. A Google search would bring you similar prices, but unfortunately most of the sizes may be sold out by now.

The Smurfs movie had its world premiere on July 24, 2011 at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City and singer Katy Perry [who did the voice-over for the Smurfette in the movie] brought her character to life on the blue carpet.

Katy further enhanced the Smurfette look with blond hair, blue eyeshadows and a pair of blue Christian Louboutin stiletto heels.

I love to wear high heels and stilettos. That’s a fact.

Another fact is that the shoe designers started incorporating higher and spikier heels into their shoe designs in the last couple of years and as a result, we have started seeing a lot of ladies wearing spiky and stiletto heeled shoes, sandals, boots, etc. Especially celebrities are very often seen in a pair of 5-inch heel shoes no matter where they are, at a cocktail party, red carpet event or they’re just gorcery shopping. Which is definitely great for all of us shoe lovers, because we truly enjoy seeing a pair of stilettos on a pair of sexy feet no matter when or where. That’s a fact as well.

However, in my opinion, very few celebrities can really wear high heels or stilettos and pull it off. For instance, it is not easy to wear 5-inch or higher stiletto heeled sandals with only 2 thin straps holding them on your feet and look graceful and be comfortable. It’s hard to do justice to the stilettos and not look unsteady, clumsy, shaky and wobble with each step. It is very hard to make each step effortless and elegant. Only a modicum of female celebrities can make it look natural, as if they were born in pair of high heels.

One of them is Halle Berry. She has a great body and very shapely legs and one of the most beautiful pair of feet in the show business (and she knows it, too. Watch it here, here, and here).

I truly enjoy looking at her pics or watching her videos, where she is wearing a nice pair of stiletto sandals. She knows how to wallk in them how to stand in them, how to pose in them as if it’s the most natural thing for her.

This is the first part of a blog about Halle Berry and her high heeled footwear, where I’ll post many pictures of her in her sexy sandals, boots, and pumps.

I don’t know why christian Louboutin called these cork wedge sandals ‘Miss Cristo’ but they look amazing as most shoes designed by Louboutin and made in Italy.

They feature black leather straps at the ankle which extend onto the 5.5-inch high cork wedges and 1.5-inch platforms.

The peep-toes have a nice bow detail.

The insoles are leather lined and the lacquered hard outer soles are signature red.

For around US$600, these wedges are real head-turners.

Paris Hilton: Another Celeb Saying “Only High Heels”

Paris Hilton was sentenced to community service after she pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors [drug possession and obstructing an officer] but avoided jail time through probation for a year. During the time she is on probation, she must complete a substance abuse program, pay a $2,000 fine and complete 200 hours of community service.

Although she was given instructions on what to wear, she just couldn’t do without her high heels while wearing a regulation T-shirt and suggested stretch pants. Those shoes were not regular patent leather high heels but, as you would expect from the celeb, black patent leather stiletto heeled Christian Louboutins!

Paris wore a pair out of her extensive Louboutin collection to complete her court-ordered work with the Hollywood Beautification Team. She also kept her sunglasses on as she painted over graffiti with a roller. As she was not particularly handy with a roller, she ruined her clothes and her black patent leather Louboutin heels with paint and through the stony ground.

I would expect her to keep on wearing other designer heels during the rest of her community work and I would assume that she would auction them at the end of her sentence in their “well-worn” state and make big bucks out of the originally $600 pumps and more importantly, lots of publicity.

Renee Zellweger: A Diva in OTK Boots

In the last couple of years, we´ve got used to see Renee Zellweger in her five inch stiletto heeled pumps and sandals unless she is exercizing. She has probably one of the most extensive Christian Louboutin footwear collections and she knows how to walk and pose in them as well. In almost all pictures, she has perfect posture and her feet are perfectly extended to display her high arches thru the shoe cleavage.

It is rather hard to see Renee in boots. She prefers sexy pumps and strappy sandals with 5-inch stiletto heels knowing that she has a perfect pair of legs and feet. A couple of years ago, she posed in leather knee boots for her role in Bridget Jones Diary and there were also a couple of other pictures of her in mid-heeled knee-high leather and suede boots.

In the last couple of years though, Renee´s taste in shoes and boots evolved and she started wearing higher and more fierce heeled pumps and sandals. The boots in this picture have pointy toes and approx. 4-inch stiletto heels.

Lately, Renee Zellweger had great photoshoots in fashion magazines, where she was wearing almost fetish boots to complement her gorgeous outfits. It was a pleasure to see her in those sexy stiletto designer boots like in this picture. Those are patent leather lace up platform knee-high boots by Nina Ricci. I love this picture of her.

Although 2009 and 2010 were two great years for all tall boots lovers and we could see almost all celebrities at least in a pair of designer OTK boots, Renee held back from that trend until recently, where she wore these stunning pair of white leather OTK boots. She looks amazing in them.

But the best of them all were these fantastic Gucci stiletto OTK boots that she wore for a photoshoot. It is a great picture and she looks like a real high heel diva in those sexy boots.

My Tahari Cindy Riding Boots

You know me. I know me! I am always interested in high heel shoes, boots, sandals, etc. My footwear should have nicely shaped high heels to please me and my fashion senses.

But since I bought my Tahari black leather riding boots, which by the way were a very good deal as well for only $99(down from $250), I started having a sudden interest in equestrian style boots.

I bought these cool leather knee-high boots to wear them during my commute to work on cold days when the sidewalks and stairs are too slippery for high heeled footwear. They have one inch heels and are extremely comfortable when I need to walk or stand over long periods of time. And when I pair them with my long black leather coat that goes all the way down to my heels, they really look gorgeous. I was also thinking of wearing them with my spurs attached, but did not have the chance to do so, yet! They are utilitarian but they also look good, so to say.

Anyways, I have been lloking at different riding boot designs. I wanted to share my current favorites with you. Be warned: It is a long list and lots of pictures! There are more than 40 different boots.

The Highest Heels Rely on Technology to Reach the Sky

The pale gold carpet in Bergdorf Goodman’s shoe salon was pockmarked with hundreds of small indentations one recent Thursday afternoon.

Christian Louboutin, the French shoe designer, was in town and about 200 of his faithful clients had come to pay homage — most of them in the designer’s skyscraper stilettos, which not only soar to more than $3,000 but have heels that top out at 160 millimeters, or a little more than 6 inches.

“I go to work in them. I go out at night in them,” said Angela Russo, 30, a Manhattan attorney who was wearing Louboutin black suede platform sandals. “I think they’re amazing, incredibly sexy and they’re comfortable. The construction is impeccable.”

Over the past decade, technical advances in materials and fabrication, combined with designers’ skills and desire to innovate, have pushed many dress shoe heels beyond the traditional 70 millimeter to 90 millimeter range in recent years. But as anyone who has broken a heel knows, the higher the elevation, the more likely it is to snap.

“The technical must-haves for designing a stiletto are a strong heel to sustain the weight of the wearer and a reinforced shank — the instep, which is the curved part of the sole — so the shoe won’t collapse,” said Elizabeth Semmelback, curator of the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto.

Many give the credit for that stronger heel to ABS, or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, a polymer developed by a U.S. government team working on synthetic rubber after World War II.

“The most important innovation in high heels is the ABS molded high heel,” said Nicholas Kirkwood, 29, a shoe designer who won the British Fashion Awards emerging star prize last year. “It’s what allows them to be really high and come in multifaceted shapes.”

It is the material used by many designers, including Mr. Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik, a pioneer in the contemporary shoe designer pantheon, although Mr. Blahnik draws the line at 115-millimeter heels. “115 is the highest heel to walk properly and comfortably,” the British-based designer said. “You have grace and femininity.”

Mr. Blahnik’s heels, which he likes to describe as “spindly,” have a central steel rod surrounded by ABS plastic and a polyurethane tip at the bottom. And to attach them firmly to the shoe, artisans in his factories position five nails, each one at a 7-degree angle and about 8 millimeters apart, a configuration that looks something like a martini glass.

A compressed-air gun is used to hammer the nails into place and, as a finishing touch, a screw is driven through the insole and into the heel, a sort of metaphorical olive.

The insoles most commonly used for Italian-made high heels are produced by Texon, a 60-year-old company, which makes a cellulose base from cotton fibers, for moisture absorption. Several other materials then are glued on it to form a kind of sandwich, with the area under the toes and ball of the foot designed to be soft and flexible while the arch and heel are made for strength. Part of that design is a stiff strip called the shankboard, which creates the arch, and a pair of spaghetti-thin steel rods that run from the heel to the ball of the foot, to help maintain the architecture of the shoe.

The front of the insole has an added layer of Latex foam for comfort.

Mr. Blahnik also adds a layer of felt, for extra cushioning, inside his shoes — “to make sure you avoid the ‘Princess and the Pea’ effect,” said George Malkemus, the president of Manolo Blahnik. “The cushioning is higher at the heel so you don’t feel the nail heads and gets thinner towards the front of the shoe because you need room for the toes.”

When it comes to the design, Mr. Blahnik said, “balance is the most important aspect of creating a 115-millimeter heel. To achieve it, I use a compass, a ruler, my eyes and my hands.” Some designers now use a CAD, or computer-assisted design, system in their work but Mr. Blahnik said he would rather do everything himself — “I am a traditionalist,” he said.

And the goal is achieved when the toe of the shoe and the tip of the heel strike the ground at the same time, with the weight evenly balanced over the shoe.

Mr. Louboutin also has hidden a microplastic platform under the ball of the foot, to give a bit of bounce and “to make the woman look good with a maximum of comfort for that type of height.”

“You measure from the top of the heel to the top of the platform inside the sole and that’s the height of the heel that you’re really walking on,” the designer said. So while his heels may look particularly high, “at the end of the day, it’s the same as a plain pump with a single sole.”

While fetish drawings from the late 19th century show very thin high heels, it wasn’t until the post-World War II era that the technological advances leading to today’s stiletto first became common.

“Stiletto,” a history of the shoe by Caroline Cox, a visiting professor in cultural history at the University of Arts in London, notes that Roger Vivier, working for Christian Dior, created the classic silhouette in 1952 — but his heels were wood. “With wood heels, you can’t go high without them breaking,” Professor Cox said in an interview.

By 1954, Mehmet Kurdash, a shoemaker with a small business in London’s East End, “figured that, if you put in an aluminum stem, you can go high without the heels breaking,” she said.

Mr. Vivier then devised the “talon aiguille,” or “needle heel,” which was reinforced with steel. And by 1956, designers at an Italian trade fair presented the basic composition used today: a central metal stem enclosed in a plastic shell.

Today, “It’s about balance, shapes and proportions,” said Mr. Kirkwood. “It has to fit the foot and different feet. It’s not just an objet d’art.”

My only complaint are the man socks that the models are wearing. It is simply gross, but if you look beyond that, the shoes are fabulous. I wish they also had boots in this collection.

Designer Studs!!

I am very much into studded shoes and boots right now.

I’ve just bought a pair of lovely Loubs (Pigalle 100) for my shoe collection and I love them. They are just gorgeous (see pics below).

There are some other nice examples of studded shoes and boots that I would like to purchase (see pics below) in the near future, which are not too extreme that I cannot wear them daily-like Rodarte studded shoes by Louboutin [although I love them as well!!] Right now, I need shoes and boots that complement my business attire and that can be worn everyday.

But anyway, I will cover that in a future post about studded shoes and boots more in detail.

Girls, it is time to go green and save! Green is not one of the main colors in our collective color plate. I was not sure about going green for fall/winter 2009/10. Was it too daring?

As I was contemplating the validity of this post during my morning commute, a vision in green captivated my attention. My fellow commuter, the always stylish yet never dull, Ms. Fierce (my personal nickname for her). Wearing a very lovely green python printed pump with a green satin pencil skirt, with a burgundy bag. Yes, she went there and the land was good.

My High Heeled Boot Favorites

I must admit, I am a Boot Girl. I love boots and I can wear them anytime, even in the summer!

This year, a new trend emerged. Designers all around the world are creating styles that look like a pair of rather closed peeptoe pumps or sandals but they call them a bootie, “peeptoe bootie”, “open-toe ankle boots” or even a “shoe bootie” or “shoe boot” as in case of Fendi High Heel Gladiator Shoe Boots.

Whatever they are called, these styles are sexy and gives us ladies the chance to show off our well-pedicured toes, even in fall and winter! There is also a continuing trend for over-the-knee (OTK) and thigh-high designs and although most designers are looking for a fresh style, I love some of the retro look like in Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors, Miu Miu, and especially Prada OTK models.

Although there are some cute flat or low-heel OTK boots this year (especially some riding boot inspired models), I always prefer high heels and stilettos!

My Goodness! There is so much going on in the Boot Universe that it is crazy-in a great way of course!

The more the designers reveal their creations the more exciting it gets for all of us Boot Bitches! Some styles are so tempting that I can barely hold myself back from jumping into a pair of my thigh high leather boots with stiletto heels and getting out under the sun at 95 degrees!!

As I mentioned previously, the greatest two trends are the high heeled peeptoe booties and the over-the-knee/thigh-high boots. But one thing is mostly common in both trends and that is the high stiletto heels. When was the last time that we had so many styles with 5 inches and higher heels? Most boots also feature platforms-hidden or visible- that make the higher heels more manageable for daily use.

All in all, this fall will be a great time for all boot lovers-and fetishists amongst us since the “unconventional” and exquisite fetish styles are becoming a part of ladies’ daily boot game!
